I consider myself a lifelong learner and have a variety of interests ranging from molecular biology to global studies. I have a Bachelor of Science in biology and am currently completing Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at Thompson Rivers University.
My origin as an educator began as a swim instructor and swim coach for Kamloops Classics Swimming. During my six years working for Kamloops Classics Swimming, I took on a variety of positions including lessons coordinator, summer camp coordinator and lifesaving sport coach. In addition to teaching water safety skills, these positions allowed me to develop swim lesson curricula, mentor young instructors, and engage with the community. In 2018, I took my studies overseas and completed a semester at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. My semester abroad led into three semesters of representing Thompson Rivers University as a Study Abroad Ambassador and subsequently another three semesters as a Study Abroad Mentor. Through my experiences as a swim coach and a study abroad ambassador, I discovered a passion for connecting with people and helping them achieve their goals. I hope to utilize TESL to continue exploring these passions.
This page serves as a tool to help me reflect on observations made in ESL classrooms and on the development of my own teaching skills, as well as sharing my experiences and lesson plans.
